Director's Note
For me, each project is an opportunity to deepen my understanding of the world and to pursue a path I've been following for several years: documenting communities that are often overlooked, frequently marginalized by dominant narratives. When a subject resonates with me, I feel it immediately; an idea emerges, sparking an inner awakening, and I know that's where I want to focus my energy for the next project. Camel wrestling doesn't interest me because I identify with it or have a particular connection to this tradition and community, but because it reveals realities that challenge our daily lives. A tradition, a culture, characters evolving in a world very different from our own, which, when we take the time to observe, reveal commonalities and fuel my questioning about what unites us despite our differences. It's this subtle connection between human beings that moves me and that I hope to convey through my art.
I am not trying to explain or justify this tradition, but rather to capture its beauty, paradoxes, and tensions through the eyes of those who live it. I do not claim to adhere perfectly to reality. On the contrary, I allow myself a stylized approach to pay homage to the joyful chaos I encountered, playing with slow motion, rapid camera movements, a dynamic and energetic editing style, an immersive soundscape, and bold, sometimes highly editorial, transitions.
I chose to keep this project short because I'm drawn to concise and direct works, capable of immersing the viewer in immediate tension, even in just a few minutes, and making them want to know more. The short format seems particularly suited to our time and to the audience I'm addressing: a generation in search of impactful stories but often unable to sit still in front of a screen for long. I don't submit to this reality, but I acknowledge it. My goal is to strike a balance by offering a brief yet dense work that respects both my own internal rhythm and that of today's viewers.
