Director's Note
Living in the House is the fifth feature film I've written, and the fourth I've directed and produced. Since the beginning of my career, I've strived to be a free artist, and my independent films reflect my personal vision of subjects and cinematic aesthetics. I hope to build a body of work based on this freedom of artistic expression. What I want is to escape the formulaic screenwriting and cinematic approach that reduces film to a mere product designed to satisfy a target audience from a commercial perspective. My film, Habiter la maison (Living in the House), is part of my artistic journey that began in the early 2000s. I initially directed short films, then my first feature film in 2008 (Le Ring), followed by others in 2015 (Le garagiste - The Mechanic), 2018 (Les salopes ou le sucre naturel de la peau - Sluts or the Natural Sugar of the Skin), and 2022 (Inès). This project explores the theme of family, with its complex and evolving family ties. It's a tender, complex, and luminous love story, with its shadowy aspects between siblings, parents, and grandparents. The film also looks at the house: the one we build, the one we live in, the one we leave for studies, because of a separation, old age, death, the one where we are born... The house becomes a symbol, a shelter, a prison, a gift...
