LOGLINE
When his lover, a rising actor, leaves him for his own stand-up comedy, Jean spirals into doubt and obsession. Between dream and reality, in the chaos of a film set where everything is an illusion, he loses himself in a troubling quest: must he reinvent himself to win her back, or does he risk losing himself?
SYNOPSIS

Director's Note
With The Molt, I wanted to explore attachment and how love can blur the line between self and other. In a deeply connected relationship, we gradually adopt the gestures, expressions, and habits of our loved one, to the point of risking losing ourselves. This identity crisis takes on a particular dimension in a gay couple, where the Boyfriend Twins phenomenon—this almost unsettling resemblance between partners—finds an echo in the world of cinema, where actors have their own doubles fashioned in their image. The film unfolds in a fluid reality, where the everyday cracks open to reveal the strange. Inspired by David Lynch, Wim Wenders, and Truffaut's Day for Night, The Molt plays with the porous boundary between artifice and reality, spectacle and intimacy. Through a blend of dreamlike imagery, absurdity, and self-deprecation, it explores how far we are willing to go, and how far we are willing to transform ourselves, in order to be loved.
