LOGLINE

Charlotte is trying to complete her first year of sobriety, but on this sweltering evening, the urge to drink is so strong that she fears a relapse. However, she discovers that her chaperone, Jeanne, is drunk.

SYNOPSIS

Charlotte is an alcoholic trying to complete her first year of sobriety. One evening, when the urge to drink is so strong that she fears a relapse, Charlotte goes to see her chaperone, Jeanne, an alcoholic who has been sober for over five years. However, upon arriving at Jeanne's, Charlotte finds her chaperone intoxicated. With the roles of helper and recipient now reversed, Charlotte decides to intervene.

Biography

A Montreal native, Julien Hardy-Cardinal graduated from the film program at the Université du Québec à Montréal in 2021. His graduation film, "Nos empreintes" (2021), was screened at two major Montreal festivals. Julien then wrote and directed "Chez elle" (2022), his first independent and professional film. "Chez elle" was selected for more than fifteen national and international festivals. In parallel, Julien developed "Les sous-marines," a short film inspired by his own struggle with alcoholism. Sober for over four years, this is his most personal project to date. As a filmmaker, Julien seeks to explore the complexities of human relationships and struggles, and to express the truths he discovers through films featuring authentic characters.

Biographie

Sara-Maude Catellier est une productrice et cinéaste émergente. Ayant étudié le cinéma à l'Université de Montréal, elle a rapidement voulu se lancer dans la production de courts-métrages. Sara-Maude est présidente de la jeune compagnie de production 1/1 Première et elle produit des courts-métrages variés mais ayant tous un but commun : toucher le spectateur. Elle cherche à établir de fortes collaborations créatives qui sauront pousser le médium cinématographique plus loin. Elle aime les œuvres sensibles, poétiques et aux personnages nuancés. Sa versatilité lui permet d'avoir une vision complète et adaptée à chaque production qu'elle entame. Au moment de la sortie des Sous-marines, elle avait produit quatre courts-métrages et développait deux nouvelles fictions.
