Amid the joy and fatigue of her quinceañera, fifteen-year-old Cecilia begins to wonder if her future lies in Yegolé or beyond its borders.

SYNOPSIS

In Yegolé, a village in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, Cecilia celebrates her quinceañera – a traditional Mexican celebration of a girl's fifteenth birthday – surrounded by her family and community. Through the beauty and weariness of both the festivities and everyday life, Cecilia feels a growing tension within her: to stay in Yegolé or to leave, as she approaches adulthood.

Biography

A native of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Renaud Gélinas is an emerging filmmaker now based in Montreal. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in film from the University of Montreal in 2023, he directed several short films, including Océan seul, vents égarés (2024) and, more recently, Yégolé, mi amor, a docu-fiction filmed in the Oaxaca region of Mexico. His films explore the complexities of human relationships, memory, and our connection to the environment, all within an aesthetic that oscillates between mystery and realism.

Director's Note

After my first visit to Yegolé, where I met the López Sánchez family with my sister, I was deeply moved by Cecilia's dilemma: to stay in her village, close to nature and her loved ones, or to leave for other urban horizons. Invited to her quinceañera, a typically Mexican celebration for a young woman's fifteenth birthday, the idea became to film both the daily life of Cecilia and her family, as well as their way of elevating it through celebration. Seeking less to explain than to emerge, the film oscillates between fiction and documentary, dream and reality, the everyday and the festive, leaving the viewer free to interpret Cecilia's quest for balance.

Biography

Co-founder, president and executive producer of Vital Productions, Serge Desrosiers is the producer behind numerous projects, including the documentaries Mon Oncle Patof (2021), Amour Cougar : au-delà du mythe (2017) and Lise Watier : une vie à entreprendre (2014), several short films such as Pacific Bell and Ange & Ovni, and Renée Beaulieu's feature film Habiter la Maison (2025). Also a director of photography, he is a leading figure in the Quebec film industry, where he has worked for nearly 30 years.

In 2009, he co-founded Vital Productions with director and content producer Sandrine Béchade, and completed training in television and film management at HEC Montréal to add production to his already extensive career.

He brings his deep knowledge of the industry to Vital Productions' projects while continuing to work as a director of photography. Serge Desrosiers also shares his expertise as a speaker in Los Angeles and Paris, notably at the American Film Market Association and Ciné-Québec. Deeply involved in his field, he has served on the boards of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, the Sainte-Adèle Chamber of Commerce, the CLD des Pays-d'en-Haut and the Canadian Society of Cinematographers.
