DIRECTOR - BIO
A 2018 UQÀM cinema graduate, Josef is primarily a prolific director of photography and editor of short films, music videos, and various commercial and artistic projects. His current studies in contemporary anthropology allow him to sharpen his critical eye and discover a need to create his own documentary projects, in order to explore the social and environmental issues that concern him.
DIRECTOR'S WORD
Inspired by my studies in anthropology, I wanted to make a film that captures the Anthropocene, this current geological period where human activity is infiltrating everything, and where natural phenomena are becoming inseparable from social phenomena. In this strange new world, the smallest snowflake falling from the sky generates all sorts of reactions: mechanical, playful, bureaucratic, nostalgic.
Then, a friend of mine played me a composition he was working on in which he used the famous alarm sound of Montreal's snow removal trucks to create a mysterious and bittersweet melody.
Using this musical composition as a sonic inspiration, I decided to document the winter around me. To try to discover and reveal, through images and interviews, the rich and complex interactions between city dwellers and these problematic snowflakes.
